A London Hotel Review: The Gore – A Unique Stay in South Kensington

You know how I feel about hotel stays! A little escape, even for just a night, can feel like a mini-vacation. It’s a chance to recharge, to be somewhere new, and to soak up a new atmosphere. I’m always eager to share my experiences, especially with those of you planning a trip to London. For a London hotel review with a unique touch, keep reading!

Why I Love The Gore

My ideal hotel has personality, a warm welcome, a bit of history, and a touch of individuality. I love when a hotel feels like a home, and the Gore, a boutique hotel in South Kensington, checks all the boxes. It has a fantastic location, with Hyde Park just a short stroll away and The Royal Albert Hall practically on its doorstep.

The Gore’s Rich History

The Gore, established in 1892, is steeped in stories, and its proximity to the Royal Albert Hall makes it a haven for theatre lovers and performers. I couldn’t believe it when I learned that Judy Garland, my childhood idol, had graced the hotel’s rooms. The Gore even boasts a suite named in her honor, complete with her actual bed frame! The Rolling Stones partied there to celebrate their album going golden, and other notable guests include Victorian Opera singer Dame Nellie Melba, famous conductor Sir Malcolm Sargent, and actor Tony Hancock. It’s a place where history truly comes alive.

Opulence and Charm in Every Room

The Gore’s 50 guest rooms are spread across six floors, and each one is distinct. We stayed in a Superior Double, which was perfect. The hotel’s unique character shines through in the rooms, each with its own design, beautiful wallpapers, luxurious fabrics, and antique furniture. They have a high-end feel, a touch of opulence, and a hint of a country manor house. They all come with tea/coffee making facilities, en-suite bathrooms, Penhalligan’s toiletries, and dressing gowns.

An Intimate and Relaxed Bar

I always have to visit a hotel’s bar, and Bar 190 at The Gore is a cozy gem. The intimate atmosphere, beautiful antique furnishings, Cinderella booths, and cozy corners make it a perfect spot for a relaxing evening. The drink selection is extensive, and the service, like the entire hotel staff, is truly exceptional.

A Stay with a Personal Touch

The Gore’s charm lies in its intimate atmosphere and the unique feeling of staying in a special home. It’s a place where you can feel like a resident, enjoying the neighborhood’s charm. We took a leisurely stroll through Hyde Park as the sun began its descent, the winter light painting the Albert Memorial in a beautiful glow. It was the perfect ending to a day filled with London’s magic.

My Top Recommendation

I highly recommend The Gore to anyone looking for a boutique hotel in London. It’s full of character, warmth, and a unique history. The service is impeccable, and the rooms are beautifully appointed.

If you’re planning a London theatre trip, The Gore is a perfect place to stay. I’m always happy to help with your travel plans, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
