KLM’s warm welcome? Not so much!
My overall trip was pretty good, but there were definitely a few bumps in the road. The first flight was comfortable enough, but I wouldn’t recommend sleeping on it. The temperature was a bit too warm, making it difficult to get a good night’s rest.
KLM’s Lackluster Service
Where’s the service?
The food on this flight was disappointing, and the drinks were scarce. I felt like the attendants were unwilling to help – maybe it’s a cultural thing, but the lack of attentiveness was quite noticeable. The flight itself was cramped, and the entertainment options were very limited – mostly old movies and series with only one or two episodes each. I was shocked that a 13-hour flight didn’t have more variety! I’ll definitely be bringing my own entertainment next time.
Delays, Disruptions, and Missing Luggage
Time is money, KLM!
The second flight was delayed for over two hours, and the explanation for the delay was not convincing. Despite the lengthy delay, KLM didn’t offer any refreshments, which seemed odd considering European Union regulations. This was the fourth KLM flight in a row that was delayed by at least two hours, so I wouldn’t recommend planning anything crucial around a KLM flight.
Luggage woes!
When I landed in Zurich, my wife and I were met with another problem – missing luggage. Our suitcases were still in Amsterdam! We had booked connecting flights, and our departure gate was at the far end of the airport. We waited for almost an hour before we were finally able to leave, leaving us stressed and exhausted.

Don’t forget your own entertainment!
Although my first flight was canceled by a different airline, which caused a major disruption to my trip, I’m grateful that EasyJet staff were professional and friendly during the delay. It was a long wait, but they did their best to make it as smooth as possible. The EasyJet flight itself wasn’t terrible, but it was uncomfortable and there was a major inconvenience. The entertainment system stopped working mid-flight, and the attendants were unable to fix it. It was disappointing that such a basic feature was unavailable for such a long flight.
BA’s Lack of Accessibility
No help for those who need it!
My experience with British Airways was nothing short of disastrous. I requested assistance for my mobility issues, but it took over 45 minutes to get someone to help me. I was then deposited at the lounge and left to wait for a ride. Nobody came, leaving me on the verge of missing my flight. It was frustrating that basic needs, such as water and snacks, weren’t offered during the flight. The seats were uncomfortable, and there was very little storage space.
BA’s Budget Airline Tactics
Forget the luxury!
The disorganization at the boarding gate was shocking. It was impossible to determine where the line was, and the announcements were confusing. My wife almost boarded the wrong flight! And to add insult to injury, BA has adopted the same sleazy policies as budget airlines, charging extra for everything from checked bags to seat selection.
A Night of Discomfort: The Uncomfortable Seat
The final blow
We had booked seats in the upgraded exit row on our flight, but they were the most uncomfortable seats we’ve ever experienced. They were too narrow to turn and find a comfortable sleeping position, and the cushioning was barely existent. It was a painful experience, and neither of us slept during the entire flight.
