Fitzrovia, a charming neighborhood in the heart of London, is a place that always makes me feel happy and excited. You see, I truly believe that enjoying delicious food and drinks is a worthy cause, and Fitzrovia is a haven for culinary delights. Located in the heart of London, Fitzrovia is surrounded by iconic landmarks. To the south, Oxford Street, a bustling shopping mecca, marks its boundary. To the north, Euston Road, known for its bustling transportation hub, acts as a dividing line. Eastward lies Bloomsbury, home to the renowned British Museum, while Marylebone, known for its elegant boutiques and stately homes, sits to the west. Fitzrovia truly sits in the middle of it all!
A Blend of Modern and Old
Fitzrovia seamlessly blends the old and the new, offering a unique experience for visitors. Close to the vibrant shops around Oxford Circus and cultural landmarks like the British Museum, Fitzrovia is the perfect place to grab a bite after a shopping spree or enjoy a coffee before visiting a museum. While most streets are wide and well-worn, there are also hidden alleys and quaint mews waiting to be discovered. It’s like a treasure hunt!

My explorations in Fitzrovia always begin on Charlotte Street, a street that holds a special place in my heart. It’s perhaps the most beloved road in all of Fitzrovia! The section between Goodge Street and Percy Street is a haven for foodies, boasting more amazing restaurants per square foot than almost any other place in London. The colorful buildings and historic pub exteriors add to the charm, making it a truly delightful street to wander. And let’s not forget the Charlotte Street Hotel, one of the finest places to stay in London!
Hidden Gems: Colville Place and Charlotte Place
Fitzrovia is not just about its streets; there are hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Colville Place and Charlotte Place are two pedestrianized lanes that offer unique experiences. Colville Place is a peaceful haven with a residential row of colorful doors and lush greenery bordering the secret garden in Crabtree Fields. It’s a hidden oasis of tranquility! Charlotte Place, on the other hand, offers a vibrant row of restaurants and cafes with tempting food and outdoor seating. It’s the perfect place to people-watch and enjoy a delicious meal.
Passageways of History: Percy Passage and Newman Passage
Fitzrovia is also home to intriguing passageways. Percy Passage and Newman Passage, narrow alleys that connect Charlotte Street to Newman Street, offer a glimpse into London’s past. As you walk through these passageways, you’ll be transported back in time with their brick facades and historic charm.
More Hidden Treasures: Marylebone Passage and Warren Mews
Not far from these passageways, Marylebone Passage offers another atmospheric escape from the modern city. It’s a quiet haven where time seems to stand still. Fitzrovia offers a delicious experience at every hour of the day. Between breakfast and drinks, there’s plenty of opportunity to indulge. Afternoon tea at the Sanderson hotel is a luxurious treat when you’re in the mood for something special. And let’s not forget the quirky coffee at The Attendant, a cafe tucked away in an old Victorian underground loo. It’s a truly unique experience!
Historic Pubs: Fitzroy Tavern
When evening comes, the historic Fitzroy Tavern is the perfect place to enjoy a pub experience. Its charming atmosphere transports you back in time to the days when literary giants like Dylan Thomas, Augustus John, and George Orwell frequented this legendary pub. It’s easy to understand why I’m quickly becoming a regular! But before I get too comfortable, I remember that there’s still so much more to explore in Fitzrovia. It’s a neighborhood that never ceases to amaze me. And with that, I’m off to discover even more hidden treasures!
