Imagine this: You’ve lived in a bustling city all your life, but never truly explored it as a tourist. That was my reality until recently. Then, my sister and I decided to treat our mother to a special birthday celebration – a staycation in London. We wanted something unique, something that oozed elegance, just like her.
Finding the Perfect Spot
We searched for a hotel that was established, stylish, and oozed class, and stumbled upon the Chesterfield Mayfair – a member of the Red Carnation Hotels Group. Its reputation, boasting the seventh spot out of 1,085 London hotels on TripAdvisor and numerous awards for its accommodation and service, set the bar high.
A Warm Welcome and a Touch of Luxury
From the moment we stepped into the grand reception area, we were met with warmth and genuine care by Letitia, the guest relations manager. She surprised us with an Executive Suite upgrade and a thoughtful pamper gift for our mother’s special day. It was a gesture that made us feel truly valued and set the tone for an amazing stay.
A Prime Location for Exploring London’s Gems
Nestled just off Berkley Square, the Chesterfield Mayfair enjoys a fantastic location, mere minutes from many iconic London landmarks. Buckingham Palace, Knightsbridge, and Hyde Park are all easily accessible. Plus, Green Park underground station, a quick five-minute walk away, allows for seamless exploration of the entire city.
A Boutique Hotel with a Homely Touch
Despite having 94 deluxe rooms and 13 suites, the Chesterfield Mayfair never feels overwhelming or impersonal. Its relaxed and informal atmosphere creates a sense of homeliness – a place where you can truly unwind and enjoy yourself.
An Executive Suite Fit for Royalty
Our Executive Suite blew us away. It featured a separate lounge area and recently redecorated interiors that were both bright and comfortable. Traditional furnishings added a touch of elegance without feeling old-fashioned. The suite was well-equipped with modern amenities, including a room safe, complimentary Wi-Fi, and air conditioning.
A Room Designed for Relaxation
The king-sized four-poster bed was a showstopper, and the padded wall coverings added a touch of luxury. The electric blinds effortlessly blocked out the sunshine, ensuring a peaceful sleep. The lounge area offered a flatscreen TV, a dining area, and a well-stocked minibar, perfect for indulging in snacks and drinks.
A Luxurious Bathroom and Thoughtful Touches
The spacious bathroom was a haven of tranquility. It featured gleaming fixtures, a large bathtub, a separate shower cubicle, and a mirrored ceiling that created an illusion of spaciousness and light.
Letitia’s thoughtful pamper gift was a delightful surprise. It included champagne, snacks, face masks, bubble baths, a homemade candle, and even soft toys for the kids! It was a testament to the hotel’s commitment to going the extra mile for their guests.
Unwinding in Luxury
After a delicious dinner, the turndown service left us with lavender mist sprays on our pillows, inviting us to relax in our fluffy bathrobes. We enjoyed a movie on the TV, laughing at each other’s face masks. This was truly a staycation where we could unwind and recharge.
A Delightful Start to the Day
Waking up refreshed, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast. The continental selection and cooked breakfast menu offered something for everyone, including eggs benedict and the full works. Just like the previous night, the food was excellent, and the happy chatter of other guests enjoying their first meal of the day was infectious. Clearly, the Chesterfield Mayfair had a knack for making guests feel content.
A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
While there are plenty of modern and stylish hotels, and others that can be overly twee or extravagant, the Chesterfield Mayfair struck a perfect balance. It effortlessly combines the essence of British tradition with a contemporary flair. You won’t find any chintz or lace net curtains here, but you will experience impeccable service and a strong emphasis on tradition.
Warmth and Genuine Care
The staff at the Chesterfield Mayfair weren’t just friendly and helpful, they genuinely seemed to enjoy their work and strive to make every guest feel special. It was the thoughtful gestures – like the pamper treats and birthday card – that made my mum feel truly pampered. We left feeling like we had experienced a luxurious getaway in the heart of London.
A Memorable Stay and a Value for Money
The Chesterfield Mayfair may not be the cheapest hotel in London, but considering the overall cost of London hotels, with double rooms starting at £200 per night including breakfast, it offers competitive pricing. And you can be sure of high standards in everything from the fixtures and fittings to the food. We couldn’t fault our stay, and the only question on our minds is: when can we go back?
Note: We received a complimentary stay at the Chesterfield Mayfair hotel, but all opinions are my own.
