Room Impressions: From Bland to Grand

My initial room in the Barlow Wing was clean and well-designed but lacked the grandeur expected of a grand hotel. The dark room with a view of the station roof wasn’t ideal. However, I was later upgraded to a king-bed room on the 7th floor, offering a much brighter and more spacious experience. This room had a distinct vintage railway station waiting room vibe that perfectly matched the hotel’s character.

Both rooms shared a few key features: exceptional cleanliness, super-comfortable beds, complimentary mineral water, and refillable water stations in the corridors. Other nice touches included bathrobes, plenty of towels, and a handy iron and ironing board.

The first room, while functional, felt like any other hotel. The second room, on the other hand, was clearly of a higher standard. Marble tiled walls and floors, nicer bathroom fixtures, a walk-in shower, a heated bathroom mirror, and subtle night lighting added a touch of luxury.

A Culinary Journey: Breakfast Delights and Dining Options

Breakfast was included in my stay, and I was delighted to have the choice of the Booking Office or the Chambers Club. The Booking Office, with its stunning high ceilings, offered a fantastic breakfast buffet, featuring everything from fresh fruit and pastries to cooked-to-order eggs. I indulged in avocado on sourdough toast with a poached egg.

The Chambers Club, while inviting, lacked the variety of the Booking Office. While there were some cheeses, salads, juices, and cereal, I found myself missing the yogurt, fresh fruit salad, and toast from the Booking Office. However, I was able to supplement my breakfast with bircher muesli and hot options from the Booking Office next door.

Dining options within the hotel are excellent. I particularly enjoyed the Chambers Lounge, allowing me to work on my laptop and enjoy evening cocktails and dinner.

A Historic Landmark: From Railway Offices to Grand Hotel

The St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel is a true architectural marvel, originally built in 1973 by renowned architect George Gilbert Scott. After closing in 1935, it served as railway offices until 2005, when residences were developed and the hotel reopened in 2011 under the Marriott International brand.

Its grand gothic facade and imposing Victorian architecture are a sight to behold, with the principal staircase becoming famous in the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” music video.

The St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel is more than just a place to stay; it’s a journey through history and luxury. With its impeccable service, elegant rooms, and exceptional dining options, this hotel provides an unforgettable experience in the heart of London.
