A Staycation Fit for a Queen: My Luxurious Getaway at The Grosvenor Hotel

Prepare to be wowed! My recent trip to London wasn’t just any ordinary vacation. It was a luxurious staycation thanks to winning a competition, a prize that included a night at the stunning Grosvenor Hotel. Buckle up for a tale of high ceilings, dreamy baths, and a few unexpected culinary twists.

Victorian Grandeur Meets Modern Luxury

Stepping into The Grosvenor is like stepping back in time. Built in 1862 by the Victorian railway pioneers, this four-star hotel boasts high ceilings, a magnificent chandelier that would make even Sia jealous, and beautiful period features. But don’t be fooled by the historical charm – the Grosvenor has undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment, blending its original grandeur with modern luxury.

Fun Fact: The Grosvenor holds the title of housing London’s first ever working lift – powered by water! Talk about innovation!

A Bathroom Fit for a Queen

Our Executive King Room on the fourth floor was a dream come true. The floor-to-ceiling windows, London-themed decor, and king-size bed were fantastic, but it was the bathroom that stole the show. It was a Pinterest board come to life! Think white and black tiles, a spacious layout, and the star of the show: a magnificent roll-top bathtub. Oh, the joy of soaking in a luxury bath after a long day of exploring London!

The bathroom was more than just a pretty face. The shower attachment made washing my hair in the bath a breeze, and the complimentary Penhaligon’s toiletries were a delightful touch. The shampoo and conditioner left my hair gleaming and smelling divine.

VIP Treatment in the Executive Lounge

Feeling pampered is one thing, but feeling like a VIP is another! The Executive Lounge, exclusive to guests in Executive Rooms, provided the perfect space to relax and unwind. With plush seating, elegant decor, and a peaceful atmosphere, it was the ideal spot for a little work or just catching up with friends.

The highlight of the lounge was undoubtedly Happy Hour. From 5pm to 9pm, guests could enjoy complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, along with delicious canapes. I indulged in a classic G&T and couldn’t resist the irresistible bruschetta. The cheeseboard and hot snacks were also a welcome treat, making me feel like a true VIP.

A Mixed Bag of Culinary Delights

After a fabulous stay in the Executive Lounge, it was time for dinner at The Grosvenor Arms restaurant. I was hoping for a culinary experience to match the hotel’s luxurious vibe.

While the pre-theatre menu was limited, I opted for the Somerset Brie and Caramelised Onion Tart. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as impressive as I had hoped. The pastry felt more like something from a local bakery than an upmarket hotel, and the onion chutney was oddly flavored.

My chicken and chorizo pasta with blue cheese sauce was a bit of a let-down as well. It tasted like something I could have made at home, lacking the finesse I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber.

However, dessert came to the rescue. The Dark Chocolate Tart with Raspberry Romanoff Cream and Crushed Pistachio was a delightful treat. The rich chocolate paired perfectly with the tangy raspberry cream, and the crushed pistachio added a lovely texture.

A Delicious Breakfast to End a Luxurious Stay

After a night out watching Miss Atomic Bomb, we headed back to The Grosvenor Arms for breakfast. Having been less than impressed with dinner, we didn’t have high expectations. But breakfast was a welcome surprise.

The buffet-style breakfast was a feast for the eyes and the stomach. There was a fantastic selection of cooked full English, pastries, cereals, cold meats, yoghurts, and fruit – something for everyone. I especially enjoyed the sausage and bacon, and the potato croquettes were a delicious treat.

A Luxurious Stay with a Few Culinary Hiccups

Overall, my stay at The Grosvenor Hotel was a truly luxurious experience. The bedroom, the bathroom, and the Executive Lounge all contributed to a feeling of pampering and privilege. However, I would recommend skipping the restaurant, especially the pre-theatre menu, and exploring the many other dining options Victoria has to offer.

For a taste of luxury and Victorian charm, The Grosvenor Hotel is a fantastic choice. It’s the perfect place for a memorable staycation or a romantic getaway.

Note: Our stay and dinner at The Grosvenor Hotel were complimentary as competition prize winners, with no expectation of review.
