Leonardo Hotels, a thriving hotel chain with over 160 properties worldwide, has become a major force in the hospitality industry. It all started in 2006, with the vision of one man: David Fattal, a seasoned hotelier from Haifa, Israel.
Fattal, already a successful businessman leading Fattal Holdings Ltd in Tel Aviv, took a leap of faith and launched Leonardo Hotels. The first property opened in Nuremberg, Germany, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Expansion and Growth: Building a Global Network
The Leonardo brand became a symbol of Fattal’s ambition to expand his hotel portfolio globally. The first acquisitions were made in Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland, laying the foundation for a truly international presence.
Fueled by a combination of personal funds and investments from various sources, Leonardo Hotels embarked on an aggressive growth strategy. The chain expanded its reach into Israel, Hungary, Austria, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Poland, and Romania, securing a dominant position in the European market.
In 2022, Leonardo Hotels announced the creation of a dedicated fund aimed at further expansion throughout Europe. This bold move demonstrates their unwavering commitment to growth and their belief in the future of the hospitality sector.
Behind the Brand: A Structure for Success
Leonardo Hotels is part of the Fattal Holdings (1998) Ltd. group, with its European operations managed by the wholly-owned subsidiary Sunflower Management GmbH & Co. KG.
The hotels are either owned by Fattal Holdings or its subsidiaries, or leased under long-term agreements. With over 2,700 employees in Central Europe alone, Leonardo Hotels has built a strong foundation for its operations.
Leading the Way: A Dedicated Team
Yoram Biton, a seasoned hospitality professional, heads the Leonardo Hotels Central Europe business unit based in Berlin. Biton’s leadership has been instrumental in driving the chain’s success in the region.
Under the Leonardo Hotels umbrella, four distinct brands cater to a wide range of travelers: Leonardo Hotels, Leonardo Boutique Hotels, Leonardo Royal Hotels, and NYX Hotels by Leonardo Hotels. Each brand offers a unique experience, from contemporary design to luxurious amenities.
Acquisitions and Milestones: Shaping the Landscape
By August 2022, Leonardo Hotels had amassed an impressive portfolio of over 160 properties, with a significant concentration in German cities.
Notable acquisitions included the Jurys Inn chain in the United Kingdom and Ireland (51 hotels), the Apollo Hotels in the Netherlands and Belgium (13 hotels), and a portfolio of six hotels in the Balearic Islands.
The acquisition of Jurys Inn marked a significant milestone for Leonardo Hotels, solidifying its position as a major player in the European hotel market. The Apollo Hotels acquisition further enhanced their presence in the Benelux region, while the Balearic Islands acquisition showcased their commitment to expanding into popular tourist destinations.
A Vision for the Future: Continued Growth and Innovation
Leonardo Hotels continues to evolve, driven by a commitment to offering exceptional hospitality and exceeding guest expectations. The company is constantly exploring new opportunities and expanding its global footprint.
Their dedication to innovation and a focus on providing a diverse range of hotel experiences, coupled with their proven track record of success, positions Leonardo Hotels for continued growth and a bright future in the ever-changing hospitality landscape.
