A Royal Stay in the Heart of London: A Review of Leonardo Royal Hotel London City

A luxurious stay with a touch of London charm awaits you at the Leonardo Royal Hotel London City. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted by an atmosphere of sophisticated comfort.

A Warm Welcome and a Stunning View

My arrival, an hour before the standard check-in time, was met with a friendly smile at the reception. The lobby’s spaciousness and elegant design, with its comfortable seating arrangements, immediately captivated me. The check-in process was swift and efficient, providing me with all the necessary information and my key card.

My home for the next few days was Suite 1207, a haven of comfort and breathtaking views. Entering the suite, I was greeted by a functional kitchenette that led to a living room bathed in natural light. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a mesmerizing panorama of iconic landmarks: the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and the Shard. The living room was a cozy sanctuary, featuring two sofas, a coffee table, a TV, London-inspired artwork, and an impressive chandelier.

The bedroom, adjacent to the living room, boasted a king-sized bed, creating a haven of relaxation against the backdrop of stunning city views. Two wardrobes, a minibar, a safe, and numerous power outlets with USB charging ports catered to the modern traveler’s needs.

A Suite Filled with Amenities

The suite was replete with amenities that catered to every need: a flat-screen TV, a writing desk, an iron and ironing board, complimentary toiletries, a choice of a bathtub or shower, a hairdryer, a bathrobe, slippers, and a 10% discount on lunch and dinner. Additional perks included a free newspaper, unlimited Wifi, complimentary mineral water, a coffee & tea maker, and a telephone.

The suite’s small touches of personalization truly made it feel like a home away from home. A handwritten welcome note and a sweet treat added a delightful surprise. How did they know I had a sweet tooth?

Luxury with a Hint of Imperfection

The bathroom, adorned with white marble tiles and a sleek black border, initially captivated me with its timeless design and floor heating. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed signs of wear and tear. Cracked tiles, poorly filled joints, and damaged enamel in the shower area detracted from the otherwise luxurious feel. This was a slight misstep considering the high standards of the suite.

A Variety of Flavors for Every Taste

Breakfast at the Hotel’s restaurant, Leo’s, was a culinary journey with a buffet that catered to every taste. From traditional English breakfast items to continental favorites like pancakes, omelets, fresh fruits, and a selection of breads, the spread was impressive. However, my first experience at breakfast was slightly marred by a disengaged staff member. Fortunately, this was quickly compensated by the attentiveness of other colleagues.

Attentive Service with a Touch of Inconsistency

The staff, for the most part, were attentive and helpful. However, there were instances where the level of engagement could have been more consistent, particularly in the lobby area. This discrepancy in attentiveness highlighted the difference between the service expected in a 5-star establishment and a 4-star hotel. It’s noticeable when staff are more engaged in talking to each other than greeting guests.

A Dining Experience to Remember

My dinner at Leo’s on a Thursday evening was a highlight of my stay. Kostas, a friendly and engaging staff member, not only found me a great table but also engaged in lively conversations, seamlessly switching between English and German. The fish and chips I ordered were exceptional, and the service was impeccable. Kostas deserves special mention for making the evening memorable.

A Heartwarming Farewell

On the day of my checkout, I received a lovely parting gift – a bottle of red wine. Although I couldn’t indulge in it due to my travel constraints, this gesture was a heartwarming end to my stay, leaving a lasting positive impression.

A Royal Experience with Room for Improvement

The Leonardo Royal Hotel London City’s stunning views, well-appointed suites, and mostly commendable service provided a memorable stay. While there were areas where improvements could be made, particularly in the upkeep of the bathrooms and consistency in staff engagement, the overall experience was positive. The personal touches, like the handwritten note and the parting gift, added a unique charm to the stay. These small gestures often make the biggest impact, making one overlook minor flaws. As I reflect on my stay, I feel a sense of satisfaction and will consider returning to Leonardo Royal Hotel in the future, hoping that they will continue to uphold and improve their standards of hospitality. See you soon, Leonardo 😉
