Escape the Everyday: Our London Adventure

Traveling together is a beautiful way to reconnect and celebrate the gift of marriage. Ryne and I strive to embark on at least one adventure each year, just the two of us. Even a simple evening in our backyard with a glass of wine after the kids are asleep can be a cherished moment. But, this June, we decided to take our love for exploring to the vibrant streets of London! We spent an entire week immersed in the city’s magic, savoring its delicious food, and strolling hand-in-hand through its iconic landmarks.

London: A Culinary Journey

For us, food is an integral part of any travel experience. We meticulously research restaurants before every trip, searching for hidden gems that offer authentic flavors and a welcoming neighborhood vibe. Chain restaurants and tourist traps are a definite no-go for us! If you’re a fellow foodie, get ready to be inspired by our carefully curated list of London’s culinary delights. And even if you’re not planning a trip to London, enjoy the delicious journey through pictures!

A Smorgasbord of Flavors

The Royal Lancaster: This hotel, perched atop Hyde Park just east of Notting Hill, provided the perfect base for our London exploration. While our room was cozy, it offered stunning views of the park and ample storage space. Its location near Lancaster Gate station made navigating the city a breeze.

Circolo Popolare in Fitzrovia: This Italian gem quickly became a favorite. We fell in love with its sister restaurant in Paris and couldn’t resist trying out this hot spot in London. The restaurant’s lively atmosphere is as captivating as its unique interior. But the real star is the food, so delicious it will have you thanking me later.

Ida Queen’s Park: Nestled in a charming, quintessentially English building on the outskirts of town, Ida offers delectable Italian fare. However, be prepared for a potential heat wave! Many London restaurants lack air conditioning, which can feel like a sensory overload for those accustomed to American climate control. We braved a scorching 90-degree day and found ourselves in a restaurant several degrees hotter than the outside. If you’re staying in the city, consider taking a train or car to and from this delightful spot.

Sumi Sushi Notting Hill: Our craving for sushi led us to Sumi on our first night in London. This intimate restaurant with its cozy interior requires reservations to ensure a table.

Taqueria in Notting Hill: Sometimes, even on a foreign adventure, a taste of home is all you need. This taqueria offered a variety of margaritas and delicious tacos, perfectly fulfilling our Mexican food fix. Conveniently located just a short stroll from Sumi Sushi, it made for a seamless culinary experience.

The Petersham Covent Garden: This elegant Italian restaurant is a feast for the senses, with its beautiful interior and breathtaking patio. While we dined inside, the outdoor seating area was nothing short of stunning. The restaurant’s adjacent home store, closed by the time we finished our meal, was a temptation I couldn’t resist. I spent a few moments window shopping, mentally adding everything to my shopping cart!

Berner’s Tavern in Mayfair: Our final night in London was a celebration of our 13th anniversary. Our summer trip typically falls in the days leading up to our actual anniversary, so we dedicate at least one dinner to officially celebrate our love. Berner’s Tavern in Mayfair provided the perfect setting for our romantic evening. Its moody interior and delectable food created an atmosphere of elegance and charm.

This culinary adventure in London, filled with diverse flavors and charming settings, served as a reminder of the joy of exploring new places and sharing experiences with the one we love.
