A London Gem: The Culpeper’s Rooftop Garden Oasis

London is brimming with rooftop bars, each vying for attention with dazzling views and trendy cocktails. But one venue, The Culpeper, takes a unique approach, setting itself apart with a charming rooftop garden and a commitment to sustainability.

The Culpeper, tucked away in the heart of Spitalfields, is much more than just a bar. It’s a vibrant hub that encompasses a pub, a restaurant, a boutique hotel, and, of course, the star attraction—the rooftop garden. This haven of greenery offers breathtaking views of the city skyline, and its unique charm earned it the title of “Europe’s Best Rooftop Bar” by Big 7 Travel in 2021.

A World of Delights: From Pub to Rooftop

The Culpeper is a multi-level experience, catering to diverse tastes and desires. Each floor boasts a distinct atmosphere, offering something for everyone.

The ground floor welcomes you with the warmth of a traditional pub. Here, you can indulge in a wide selection of wines, craft beers, and inventive cocktails. The menu features delicious, seasonal dishes, like Dill-Cured Salmon with Daikon & Radish Salad and Red Pepper Hummus with Almond & Harrisa Pesto. And, naturally, no pub experience is complete without a Sunday Roast.

Ascend to the first floor, and you’ll discover a bright and airy dining space bathed in natural light. This floor features a menu that caters to both lunch and dinner, showcasing culinary delights like Spinach & Ricotta Dumplings with Peas, Violet Artichokes, Salsa Verde, and Pecorino, or Pan-Fried Monkfish with Ratatouille, Crispy Polenta, and Herb Salad. To tantalize your taste buds before the main course, a rotating Aperitif of the Week is also on offer.

During the day, guests can enjoy lunch on any of the three floors. But come evening, dinner is reserved for the restaurant on the first floor. Don’t worry though, the ground floor pub and the rooftop provide an array of bar snacks for hungry drinkers.

A Touch of Luxury: The Boutique Hotel

Nestled on the third floor is a delightful surprise—a charming boutique hotel. This intimate space offers meticulously designed rooms that rival London’s top hotels, providing a sanctuary for a tranquil escape.

The Rooftop Garden: A Feast for the Senses

But the true allure of The Culpeper lies in its magnificent rooftop. This green haven is a breathtaking spectacle, offering stunning panoramic views of London, alongside a unique and intimate atmosphere.

The rooftop garden isn’t just a pretty face. It’s a vital part of The Culpeper’s commitment to sustainable practices. The garden, covering a sprawling 500 square feet, is a testament to their dedication to locally sourced and organically grown ingredients. You can witness firsthand the journey of these ingredients, from bloom to plate.

The Culpeper’s dedicated gardener, Jack Astbury, is the mastermind behind this green oasis. He meticulously cultivates a variety of fresh herbs and vegetables, enriching the menus with a delightful burst of natural flavor. The remaining ingredients are carefully sourced from farmers and suppliers who prioritize regenerative farming practices. This commitment extends to their meat, sourced from The Ethical Butcher, dairy from The Estate Dairy, and olive oil imported from Two Fields Zakros in Crete.

A Sustainable Future: The Culpeper Farm

The Culpeper’s dedication to sustainable practices goes beyond the rooftop garden. They have recently announced plans to establish a farm in Deptford, in partnership with their sister pub, The Duke of Cambridge.

This 3,500 square foot farm will provide fresh produce for both pubs, ensuring a steady supply of locally grown ingredients, and will also benefit the surrounding community.

A Sustainable Haven: The Culpeper Experience

The Culpeper is a testament to the power of sustainable practices, showcasing the beauty of fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the importance of supporting ethical farming. This unique establishment offers a truly unforgettable experience, whether you’re seeking a vibrant pub atmosphere, a delicious meal, or a romantic rooftop cocktail date. The Culpeper is a must-visit destination for those seeking a blend of culinary delights, stunning views, and a commitment to sustainable living.
