Calling all food lovers and London explorers! Are you looking for a unique dining experience that combines delicious food with stunning views? Look no further than The Prince Regent, a charming floating restaurant that takes you on a culinary adventure along the picturesque canals of London.
This isn’t your average restaurant. The Prince Regent is a canal-cruising barge, a vessel that gracefully glides through the city’s waterways, offering a fresh perspective on London’s iconic landmarks. The brainchild of siblings Harry and Leah Lobek, The Prince Regent is a collaborative effort with Chef Stuart Kilpatrick, creating a seafood haven on the water.
A Culinary Journey on the Water
Embark on a two-and-a-half-hour voyage that starts at Paddington Basin and takes you on a scenic tour of London’s hidden gems. You’ll pass by familiar sights like Lord’s Cricket Ground and the Snowdon Aviary at London Zoo, but you’ll also have the chance to see a private garden hidden behind a wall of “guard dogs on patrol” signs.
The journey culminates at Camden Lock, where you’ll turn around and head back to the starting point. Don’t worry about the weather, as the boat provides cover from the elements, allowing you to enjoy the scenery, even on a rainy day. You can even step out onto the front deck to capture some breathtaking views.
A Taste of the Sea
As you journey through the canals, the five-course set menu prepared by head chef Stephen Bunch will tantalize your taste buds. The menu features fresh, sustainably-caught seafood from local waters paired with seasonal British produce. The dishes are carefully timed to arrive throughout the cruise, ensuring you savor each bite.
Get ready for a culinary adventure that will transport you to seafood heaven. On our trip, we were delighted by the dressed oysters (a must-try!), fennel-cured trout, Cornish crab and saffron risotto, and red mullet with a pepper sauce.
Each dish was perfectly paired with a carefully selected wine, enhancing the flavors and creating an unforgettable dining experience. For example, the red mullet was perfectly complemented by a Bressan Schioppettino with intense peppery notes.
The pollock with Jersey royals, spring greens, and smoked butter hollandaise was another highlight. We loved the creamy hollandaise sauce, and while it was a bit dark travelling through a tunnel under North London, it was a memorable moment.
A Culinary Masterpiece in a Tiny Space
The Prince Regent’s galley is surprisingly small, but it’s in this tiny space that Chef Bunch creates culinary masterpieces. The five-course menu is delivered with precision and grace, showcasing the team’s dedication to quality and creativity.
The culinary journey ends with a delightful selection of British cheese and apple and ginger chutney, followed by a dark chocolate hazelnut mousse. The espresso martini served with the dessert was the perfect way to end the meal.
A Unique and Unforgettable Experience
A cruise on The Prince Regent is more than just a meal; it’s a memorable experience that combines the joy of dining with the beauty of London’s canals. The price tag may seem steep (£75 for the meal and cruise), but we believe it’s worth every penny.
If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable way to experience London, we highly recommend The Prince Regent. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is an experience that will leave a lasting impression.
