A Delightful Stay at the Leonardo Royal Hotel London City

Embark on a journey with me as I share my experience at the Leonardo Royal Hotel London City, a charming hotel that offers a blend of modern luxury and captivating views. From December 19th to the 22nd, I had the pleasure of staying at this remarkable establishment, and it was a stay that left an indelible mark on my memory.

A Warm Welcome and a Breathtaking View

Arriving an hour before the standard check-in time, I was greeted with a warm smile at the reception. The lobby’s spacious design, adorned with plush seating arrangements, instantly created a welcoming atmosphere. The check-in process was swift and efficient, and I was promptly provided with my key card and all the essential information.

My temporary home for the next few days was Suite 1207, nestled on the 12th floor. Stepping into the suite, I was greeted by a functional kitchenette that led to a living room boasting floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing breathtaking views of iconic London landmarks: the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and the Shard. The living room was a haven of comfort, furnished with two inviting sofas, a stylish coffee table, a flat-screen TV, captivating London-inspired artwork, and a magnificent chandelier that added a touch of elegance.

A Suite Designed for Comfort and Convenience

Adjacent to the living room was a spacious bedroom featuring a king-sized bed, inviting slumber amidst the stunning panoramas. The bedroom was thoughtfully equipped with two roomy wardrobes, a minibar, a safe, and an array of power outlets with USB charging ports, a thoughtful touch for the modern traveler.

The suite was a testament to luxurious comfort, boasting a comprehensive selection of amenities to cater to every need. From the flat-screen TV and writing desk to the iron and ironing board, complimentary toiletries, a choice of a bathtub or shower, hairdryer, bathrobe, slippers, and a generous 10% discount on lunch and dinner, every detail was meticulously considered. Additional perks included a complimentary newspaper, unlimited Wi-Fi, refreshing mineral water, a coffee & tea maker, and a telephone for convenient communication.

A Personal Touch

To my delight, I found a handwritten welcome note and a sweet treat awaiting me. This thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to my stay, making me feel truly valued.

A Touch of Disappointment

While the suite’s spacious bathroom, adorned with white marble tiles and a chic black border, initially impressed me with its elegant design and floor heating, a closer inspection revealed signs of wear and tear. Cracked tiles, poorly filled joints, and damaged enamel in the shower area detracted from the luxurious feel. This aspect, unfortunately, fell short of the otherwise high standards of the suite.

Breakfast and Beyond: A Blend of Satisfaction and Inconsistencies

A Culinary Journey at Leo’s

Breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, Leo’s, was a feast for the senses, offering a buffet that catered to a diverse range of tastes. From traditional English breakfast staples to continental delights like pancakes, omelets, fresh fruits, and a delectable assortment of bread, there was something for everyone. However, my initial experience at breakfast was marred by a staff member who seemed disengaged. This was later compensated by the attentive service of other colleagues.

A Discrepancy in Service

For the most part, the staff were courteous and helpful. However, there were moments when the level of engagement could have been more consistent, particularly in the lobby area. This inconsistency in attentiveness highlighted the difference between the service expected in a 5-star establishment and a 4-star hotel. It’s disheartening to witness staff engaging in conversation among themselves while neglecting to acknowledge guests.

Dining at Leo’s: An Evening to Remember

My dining experience at Leo’s on a Thursday evening was a delightful highlight. Kostas, an amiable staff member, not only secured me a fantastic table but also engaged in lively conversations, effortlessly switching between English and German. The fish and chips I ordered were absolutely exceptional, and the service was impeccable. Kostas deserves a special mention for making the evening truly memorable.

A Farewell Gesture

On the day of my departure, I received a delightful parting gift – a bottle of red wine. While I couldn’t indulge in it due to my travel constraints, this gesture was a heartwarming end to my stay, leaving a lasting positive impression despite some minor issues encountered.

A Memorable Stay with Room for Improvement

The Leonardo Royal Hotel London City offers a truly memorable experience with its stunning views, well-appointed suites, and mostly commendable service. While there are areas where improvements could be made, particularly in the upkeep of the bathrooms and consistency in staff engagement, the overall experience was positive. The personal touches, like the handwritten note and the parting gift, added a unique charm to my stay. These small gestures often have the most significant impact, making one overlook minor flaws. As I reflect on my stay, I feel a sense of satisfaction and will consider returning to Leonardo Royal Hotel in the future, hoping that they will continue to uphold and improve their standards of hospitality. See you soon, Leonardo 😉
