A Haven in the Heart of London: Exploring Fitzrovia

Fitzrovia, a vibrant neighborhood nestled in the heart of London, offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern energy. With its diverse housing options, ranging from stylish new developments to grand Georgian townhouses, Fitzrovia caters to a wide range of tastes. But what truly sets this area apart is its eclectic foodie scene, boasting everything from Michelin-starred restaurants to cozy pavement cafes and lively bars.

This charming district feels like home to us. We’ve been regulars here for over a decade, even though we reside in Stockwell. Our three businesses are conveniently located within a short walk from Warren Street, making us practically part of the community. It’s impossible to stroll through the streets without encountering a familiar face. Despite its central location, Fitzrovia has a warm, communal atmosphere, with numerous beautiful public spaces like Regent’s Park, Fitzroy Square, and Whitfield Street Gardens, offering green oases amidst the bustling city.

A Daily Dose of Fitzrovia

Our days usually begin with a trip to Warren Street, where our deli, Honey & Spice, awaits. We then flit between our deli and our two restaurants – Honey & Smoke on Great Portland Street and Honey & Co., which recently relocated to the lovely Bloomsbury neighborhood on Lamb’s Conduit Street after spending a decade on Warren Street.

Fitzrovia’s culinary scene is a treat for the senses. For morning pastries, we recommend Miel on Warren Street. Lunch is a delightful affair at Bento-ya (aka Happiness in a Box), also on Warren Street, where their delicious katsu curry is a must-try. Another favorite spot is the Indian YMCA on Fitzroy Square, just a short walk away.

Beyond the Bite: Exploring Fitzrovia’s Cultural Gems

When we need a break from the culinary world, Fitzrovia’s vibrant cultural landscape beckons. For bike enthusiasts, Velorution just down the road from Honey & Smoke is a haven for all things cycling.

Fitzrovia’s small galleries are a haven for art lovers. The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery and the Woolff Gallery deserve special recognition. For a dose of intellectual stimulation, the Wellcome Collection on Euston Road and the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) offer intriguing exhibitions. And of course, the British Library’s reading rooms are a haven for bibliophiles, where we could spend hours immersed in books.
