A Dream Location for Aviation Enthusiasts
I’ve been a fan of this hotel since it opened its doors. It’s a game-changer for Heathrow hotels, mainly due to its direct connection to Terminal 5. My love for airports and travel makes this hotel a perfect fit. Being able to stay in such lovely surroundings, just a short walk from the terminal, is an absolute dream. Plus, the runway views, especially if you’re lucky enough to get a room facing the outside, make the experience even more special. It’s no surprise that the Sofitel is our top choice for early flights from Heathrow Terminal 5 – the ease of walking through the tunnel to the terminal is unmatched.
A Comfortable and Convenient Connection
The hotel’s location is a major plus, especially if you’re flying in or out of Heathrow, particularly Terminal 5. Navigating to the hotel might require a little exploration to find the right lift from the arrivals floor to the connected car park, but once you’re there, it’s a breeze. The tunnel connecting the hotel to the terminal is heated and air-conditioned, making for a pleasant and comfortable walk regardless of the weather. Even though I’ve stayed here numerous times, I hadn’t ventured outside the hotel buildings until this visit. Taking a stroll around the main entrance gave me a better understanding of the hotel’s surroundings. It also allowed me to appreciate the spacious areas between each of the six hotel buildings, which provide a sense of openness and light, even for the rooms facing the interior.
Luxurious Suites and a Haven for Relaxation
The Sofitel offers a variety of room options to cater to different preferences, from classic rooms to luxurious suites. The suites are particularly impressive, boasting spacious living areas, well-appointed bedrooms, and luxurious bathrooms. You’ll find everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. While some furniture may show signs of age, it doesn’t detract from the overall appeal of the hotel, especially considering its convenient location and comfortable accommodations. The soundproofing and multi-layered windows ensure a peaceful night’s sleep, even in the rooms facing the runway. Aviation enthusiasts will love the views from the higher floors, offering a spectacular perspective on the runway activity. The suite we stayed in featured a separate living and dining area, a well-equipped bathroom, and plenty of space to relax and unwind.
A Culinary Experience with Room for Improvement
During our short stay, we only had the opportunity to try the Vivre restaurant. The food was delicious, with a good selection and high-quality presentation, but the service was unfortunately lacking. The hotel had recently reopened after a Covid-lockdown, so staff shortages were likely the culprit, and hopefully, this is a temporary issue. However, the service was slow, and our waiter seemed overwhelmed, which detracted from the overall dining experience. The restaurant’s décor is starting to show its age, although it is well-maintained and clean.
Amenities and Activities for Every Traveler
The Sofitel typically offers a range of amenities, including a choice of restaurants and bars, a swimming pool, gym, spa, and on-site hairdressing and barber services. This makes it a truly comprehensive destination for travelers. However, due to Covid restrictions, many of these amenities were unavailable during our visit.
Minor Points for Improvement
There were a few minor points that could use some attention. The wardrobe doors in our suite were loose and needed some fixing. While this wasn’t a major issue, it did require some attention. Additionally, the restaurant’s service, as mentioned earlier, could be improved.

Despite a few minor inconveniences, the Sofitel London Heathrow remains a fantastic choice for travelers looking for a luxurious and convenient stay near Heathrow Airport.
