Looking for a stylish hotel in the heart of London with easy access to everything? Then you need to check out The Grosvenor! This 4-star gem is right next to Victoria Station, making it a perfect base for exploring the city. I recently stayed here on a whirlwind solo trip and was blown away by its charm and convenience.
Location, Location, Location
The Grosvenor’s location is a major plus. Just steps away from Victoria Station, you have easy access to Gatwick Airport via the Gatwick Express train and numerous National Rail services. The London Underground’s Victoria, District, and Circle lines are also within easy reach, making getting around the city a breeze. Even if you’re a walker, you’re in a prime spot, with landmarks like the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben within a 20-minute stroll.
But be warned, The Grosvenor is in the heart of it all, so expect some bustling energy. The hotel is connected to the station by a private passage, which is super convenient for arriving guests, especially when the weather’s less than ideal. This passage is locked in the evening, so be sure to plan accordingly.
Stunning Interiors and a Touch of History
The Grosvenor is housed in a beautiful 19th-century building with tons of curb appeal. Stepping inside is a breathtaking experience, with a majestic chandelier gracing the grand entrance hall. This elegant theme continues throughout the hotel, with high ceilings, ornate pillars, intricate carvings, stained glass windows, and sweeping staircases. It’s a visual feast that will make you want to capture every moment on your Instagram!
A Cozy Room with a View
My single room was located on a higher floor, offering stunning views of the bustling Victoria bus station. It was a unique perspective on the city that I enjoyed immensely. The room itself was comfortable and functional, with a desk, wardrobe, safe, kettle, cups, and a very comfy Hypnos bed that ensured a great night’s sleep. While the bathroom fittings were a bit dated, everything was in good working order. The only slight drawback was the TV reception, which was a bit fuzzy. But hey, who needs TV when you have free Wi-Fi and two complimentary bottles of water (still and sparkling)?
Afternoon Tea with a Touch of Grandeur
The Grosvenor’s afternoon tea is a real treat, served in a lovely lounge on the ground floor. My table by the window offered a prime vantage point for enjoying the beautiful surroundings, which echo the elegance of the entrance hall with high ceilings and decorative pillars. The ambiance was perfect for indulging in scones, cakes, and a delightful selection of finger sandwiches.
The price of the afternoon tea is very reasonable for London, especially considering the quality and quantity of the food. The only minor drawback is that the tea is served in a teabag rather than loose leaf, but it still tastes very nice.
My favorites included the pistachio meringue, coronation chicken cone, and the savory scone with tomato and horseradish chutney. The cherry jam served with the sweet scones was delicious – just be careful not to overdo it! I learned the hard way and ended up with a face full of jam!
Hospitality that Exceeds Expectations
Throughout my stay, the staff at The Grosvenor was incredibly friendly and helpful. I was particularly impressed by a receptionist who went above and beyond to assist an elderly couple, patiently explaining directions and even carrying one of their suitcases!
Overall, I had a wonderful time at The Grosvenor and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting London. It’s the perfect blend of comfort, style, and convenience, and the staff is truly exceptional. If you’re looking for a memorable London stay, The Grosvenor is a must-visit.
