A night at The Intercontinental Park Lane allowed me to experience London anew, as a visitor rather than a resident.

Stepping into the hotel was like entering another world. After a blustery December afternoon, the warmth and elegance of the lobby felt like a comforting hug. The gleaming white marble and stylish Christmas decorations created an atmosphere of festive cheer. The friendly reception staff greeted us warmly, and the doormen whisked away our luggage, making us feel like royalty.
A Night of Luxury and Comfort
We were delighted to find that we had been upgraded to a newly refurbished superior room. This was a delightful surprise, thanks to my IHG Rewards Club membership. The room was spacious and luxurious, with all the amenities you’d expect from a 5-star hotel. A king-size bed draped in plush linens beckoned us for a restful night’s sleep, while a mini-bar, coffee-making facilities, fluffy robes, and slippers added to the luxurious ambiance. A sweet touch of bottled water and chocolate chip shortbreads greeted us upon arrival, making us feel right at home.
The view from our window was breathtaking. We overlooked Park Lane, a bustling thoroughfare filled with cars and lights. It reminded me that London is a city that never sleeps, a vibrant hub of energy and activity. It was the perfect reminder of why I love this city.
Afternoon Tea: A Festive Delight
No stay at The Intercontinental Park Lane is complete without afternoon tea. We headed down to The Wellington Lounge, an elegant and inviting space perfect for enjoying this quintessential British tradition.
In December, the traditional afternoon tea menu was given a festive twist. We started with a celebratory champagne cocktail, then perused the extensive tea list. Our waiter, Thomas, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about tea, patiently explaining the different varieties. I opted for Earl Grey, while Scott, being a true Northerner, chose classic English Breakfast tea.
Each course was presented with meticulous care and attention to detail. Thomas described each treat, adding to the enjoyment of the experience. The final course was a delightful surprise – a Christmas present filled with miniature desserts, a festive touch that truly captured the spirit of the season.
A Night on the Town and a Cozy Retreat
After our delightful afternoon tea, we ventured out to experience London’s vibrant West End. We enjoyed a pre-theatre dinner at Bob Bob Ricard, followed by a performance of The Book of Mormon. It was a wonderful evening, knowing we had a luxurious haven to return to at the end of the night.
Back at the hotel, I indulged in a relaxing bubble bath, wrapped in a fluffy robe. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.
A Delicious Breakfast and a City Reimagined
The next morning, we indulged in the hotel’s extensive breakfast buffet. I treated myself to a flaky, buttery croissant and a couple of poached eggs, a perfect start to the day.
My stay at The Intercontinental Park Lane was an absolute delight. It reminded me of the unique energy and excitement of London, helping me to see my city through new eyes.
