A Neighbourhood with Soul: Fitzrovia, London

Fitzrovia, nestled in the heart of London, is a vibrant neighbourhood that seamlessly blends modern charm with historical grandeur. You’ll find everything from swanky new builds to grand Georgian townhouses, catering to diverse tastes and budgets. But it’s the eclectic foodie scene that truly sets Fitzrovia apart, boasting Michelin-starred eateries, bustling cafes, and trendy bars.

A Home Away From Home

We’ve called Fitzrovia our “home away from home” for over a decade, despite living in Stockwell. With three businesses within a short stroll of Warren Street, we’ve become intimately familiar with the area and cherish its warm community spirit. Even in the bustling heart of London, Fitzrovia offers a sense of neighbourliness, evident in the friendly faces you encounter on every corner and the abundance of inviting public spaces. From the sprawling Regent’s Park to the tranquil Fitzroy Square and the charming Whitfield Street Gardens, there’s a green oasis for every mood.

A Day in Fitzrovia

Our days begin with a trip to Warren Street, home to our beloved deli, Honey & Spice. From there, we navigate between our two restaurants: Honey & Smoke on Great Portland Street and Honey & Co, now gracing Lamb’s Conduit Street in Bloomsbury, a neighbourhood as enchanting as Fitzrovia itself.

A morning pastry at Miel on Warren Street is a must, followed by a satisfying lunch at Bento-ya, known affectionately as “Happiness in a Box,” for their delicious katsu curry. If Indian cuisine beckons, the Indian YMCA on Fitzroy Square is just a stone’s throw away.

Fitzrovia Beyond Food

Fitzrovia caters to every passion. Velorution is our go-to spot for all things cycling, conveniently located near Honey & Smoke. When seeking artistic inspiration, we immerse ourselves in the small, independent galleries scattered throughout the area. The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery and the Woolff Gallery are particular favourites. For those seeking a dose of intellectual stimulation, the Wellcome Collection on Euston Road and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) offer captivating exhibits. And let’s not forget the British Library, with its extensive reading rooms perfect for spending hours lost in a good book.

As the sun sets, Fitzrovia transforms into a haven for culinary delights and cultural experiences. We often indulge in the flavors of Japan at ROKA on Charlotte Street, followed by a night of classical music at the esteemed Wigmore Hall.
