A New Look for a London Icon: The London Hilton on Park Lane

The London Hilton on Park Lane, the first Hilton to grace British shores in 1963, has undergone a dramatic transformation! This iconic hotel, nestled in one of London’s most luxurious and celebrated areas, has shaken off its dated image and emerged as a rejuvenated gem. Having stayed there twice in recent weeks, I can confidently say that the hotel’s new-found sophistication is worth every penny! My first visit was courtesy of Hilton, but my most recent stay was a New Year’s Eve celebration using points – a testament to the hotel’s allure. This review primarily focuses on my personal experience but draws upon elements from both stays.

Location and Accessibility

The hotel’s prime location makes exploring the city a breeze. You can hop on the Tube at Hyde Park Corner or take a leisurely 10-minute stroll to Green Park. It’s also just a stone’s throw from Winter Wonderland, making it a perfect choice for a festive getaway.

A New Look and Feel

Stepping into the hotel’s reimagined reception area, you’ll be greeted by a welcoming openness, a stark contrast to its former self. The check-in process is seamless, with a friendly staff and a delightful glass of sparkling wine to set the mood.

The refurbishment is evident throughout, with a distinct upscale ambiance permeating the corridors leading to the rooms. You’ll instantly recognize the modernized design in the Executive Rooms. We enjoyed a spectacular view from our 21st-floor room (number 2117) – perfect for watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks! While not all rooms face the London Eye, the Executive Rooms on the higher floors offer breathtaking vistas overlooking the Thames.

Sophisticated Rooms with Modern Amenities

The Executive Rooms are a haven of comfort and modern convenience. The sleek furnishings and stylish bathrooms create a refined atmosphere. A standout feature is the generous window seat, ideal for soaking in the city’s captivating scenery. While the room lacks a dedicated desk, the comfortable chair and free-standing table provide a suitable workspace.

The rooms are equipped with double sockets and USB ports for effortless charging, along with a tablet that offers a range of functions, including room service, news updates, and even communication with the front desk. The plush bathrobes, ample storage space, and a Nespresso machine with proper glassware add a touch of luxury. Although the minibar is absent, a complimentary bottle of water is provided.

While the single-glazed windows can fog up in the morning, the room’s air conditioning ensures a comfortable temperature. The comfortable beds and high-quality linens invite restful nights. Although the pillows are incredibly soft, they might feel a little lacking in support for some.

An Enchanting Bathroom Experience

The spacious bathrooms are a true testament to the hotel’s commitment to quality. The luxurious Molton Brown toiletries add a touch of indulgence to every shower. The stylish lighting around the mirror, including a concealed magnifying mirror, is a practical and thoughtful touch. The generous shower features modern button controls and a powerful rainhead shower.

A Memorable New Year’s Eve

Our New Year’s Eve celebration was unforgettable! From our vantage point high above the city, the fireworks display was a truly breathtaking spectacle. With the BBC broadcast playing in the background, we enjoyed the music, the iconic chimes of Big Ben, and the countdown, creating a unique and intimate experience. The 24-hour room service provided a delicious meal delivered on a proper table.

A Luxurious Lounge with a Range of Amenities

The reimagined lounge on the first floor exudes a sense of luxurious elegance. The spacious lounge area offers comfortable seating, while a dedicated bar provides a perfect spot for working. The lounge serves a variety of food and drinks throughout the day, including a selection of canapés and a tempting array of wines and spirits. Even non-alcoholic options are catered for, with premium soft drinks and non-alcoholic spirits.

Exceptional Dining Experiences

The hotel’s culinary offerings are truly impressive. The rooftop restaurant, Galvin at Windows, and the 10 Degrees Sky bar, with their panoramic London views, are ideal for a memorable dining experience. The newly-introduced Revery bar in the lobby offers a sophisticated and stylish setting for enjoying cocktails.

The Park Corner Brasserie, the hotel’s newly-renovated main restaurant, is a bright and contemporary space offering a delicious breakfast buffet. The extensive breakfast selection includes both traditional English options and a range of international dishes, including Arabic specialties. The gluten-free and vegan offerings are a welcome addition, along with the option of ordering freshly made omelettes.

While the breakfast buffet is exceptional, a minor quibble would be the lack of smoked salmon, which would be a welcome addition to a hotel of this caliber. However, the shakshuka, with its vibrant spices, was a delicious treat and well worth the extra cost.

Fitness and Relaxation

The hotel boasts a 24-hour fitness center, equipped with weights and cardio machines, as well as a sauna and steam room for relaxation. For guests arriving by car, parking is available at a cost of £50 per day.

Value for Money and Booking

The London Hilton on Park Lane offers exceptional value for money considering its prime location and the high standard of its accommodation. Prices start at 80,000 Hilton points for a standard room, but you’ll need around 225,000 points for an Executive Room on New Year’s Eve. For the best deals, book as early as possible. Cash prices start at £223 in the sale.

Final Thoughts

The London Hilton on Park Lane has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a stylish and sophisticated haven for discerning travelers. The reimagined rooms, the exceptional dining experiences, and the unforgettable views make this hotel a perfect choice for both business and leisure travelers. It’s definitely not your standard Hilton, but the price reflects the hotel’s unique charm and the special experience it offers. My New Year’s Eve at the hotel was truly unforgettable, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a stylish and luxurious London getaway.
