A Palace in the Heart of London: A Review of the Strand Palace Hotel

London, a city of grand palaces, is where we find the Strand Palace Hotel, a magnificent structure perched on one of the city’s most iconic avenues: The Strand. This hotel is a monument to the city’s past, a beacon of elegance, and a haven for modern-day travelers seeking a touch of history and luxurious comfort.

History, Charm, and Modernity

Built in 1909, the Strand Palace boasts a fascinating history. Its walls have witnessed the roaring 20s, the swinging 60s, and even served as a home for American servicemen during World War II. Despite its age, the hotel exudes a timeless charm, a testament to the dedication to preserving its heritage.

While the Strand Palace cherishes its history, it also embraces the modern world. The hotel has undergone a splendid renovation, resulting in a sleek and contemporary ambiance. The classic British charm hasn’t been forgotten, though. A red postbox stands proudly in one corner, a reminder of London’s quintessential character, and a friendly top-hatted doorman welcomes guests with a warm smile and insider tips on the city’s hidden gems.

A Room with a View (and a Touch of Luxury)

Stepping into the Strand Palace is like entering a different world. The spacious lobby, adjacent to the Gin Palace, invites you to linger and savor the ambiance. The Gin Palace, a bar within the hotel, is a perfect spot for an after-dinner cocktail or a late-night rendezvous.

The hotel’s 788 rooms, an impressive number for an independent hotel, offer a wide selection to suit every taste. Our room, though affordable, was a haven of comfort and style. Complimentary White Company toiletries, a Hans Grohe shower, and plush bathrobes added a touch of luxury to our stay. The room was thoughtfully equipped with all the necessities for a comfortable and relaxing experience.

Culinary Delights at Haxells Restaurant & Bar

After a day of exploring London, a visit to Haxells Restaurant & Bar, the Strand Palace’s in-house eatery, is a must. The restaurant boasts a modern British menu, featuring dishes like fillet of seabass, corn-fed chicken, and hearty steaks. We were particularly impressed by the Caesar salad with fried anchovies and the Portobello and grilled halloumi burger, both expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The restaurant’s vibrant wine list offers a selection to complement any meal.

Haxells is an inviting space, perfect for a romantic dinner, a casual bite with friends, or a quick snack before catching a show. The friendly staff, elegant decor, and warm ambiance create a truly enjoyable dining experience.
