London in early summer is a true delight. The air is warm and inviting, and the skies are a vibrant blue. It’s the ideal time to explore the city before the summer crowds arrive. When the sun is shining and the temperatures soar, London feels magical. The city buzzes with life, filled with excitement and promise. We recently enjoyed a wonderful family trip to London, staying at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel, where we found the perfect blend of comfort and adventure for a memorable weekend.
A Grand Hotel in a Vibrant Location
The Hilton London Metropole is nestled in the heart of Edgware Road, a bustling area just on the edge of Paddington. This vibrant corner of London is full of colorful life, with a fantastic array of restaurants just waiting to be discovered. The hotel itself is a grand space, with over a thousand rooms spread across different wings, offering a variety of restaurants, shops, and leisure facilities. It’s truly a self-contained haven, perfect for families wanting to experience everything London has to offer, all within the hotel’s walls.
A Spacious Family Oasis
We settled into one of the hotel’s spacious family rooms, which easily accommodated our family of five. The main bedroom boasted two queen-sized beds, providing ample space for everyone to sleep comfortably. At the end of the room, a cleverly designed sofa and desk transformed into another bed, creating a cozy corner for the younger members of our family. The room felt generous in size, offering excellent value for families traveling to London. The bathroom was also a good size, stocked with delightful toiletries. While the amenities were excellent, I personally prefer non-disposable toiletries, which I hope Hilton might consider offering in the future. For those who need to stay connected, the hotel offers free Wi-Fi in the rooms for those who join the Hilton Honors program, which is free to sign up for.
A Delicious Start to the Day
Each morning, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast in the hotel’s main restaurant. The buffet was a feast for the eyes and the stomach, offering an impressive selection of food to satisfy every palate. We particularly enjoyed the vegetarian sausages and the abundance of hot items, including fluffy pancakes and a dedicated egg station. The pastries were a highlight, and the children were thrilled with the kids’ corner, which offered warm chocolate and doughnuts. While I was a little disappointed that there weren’t fresh fruit juices, I appreciated the variety of fresh fruits and other interesting options available. We certainly left breakfast feeling satisfied and ready to explore the city.
A Taste of Italy and a Culinary Adventure
For our dinner, we opted for the Fiamma restaurant, which serves up delicious Italian cuisine. The children were delighted to participate in a pizza-making session with the hotel’s skilled chef. The hotel has its own pizza oven, where they bake their sourdough pizzas to perfection. This hands-on experience was a real highlight for the kids, allowing them to create their own pizzas with their favorite toppings. I savored a tasty rigatoni dish with onions, asparagus, and blue cheese, while Mr. G enjoyed a grilled sea bass with chillies and a coriander and clam risotto, which he declared delicious.
Convenient Location and a London Escape
The Hilton London Metropole enjoys a fantastic location, putting you within easy reach of many of London’s top attractions. While we didn’t venture out to Oxford Street this time, it was reassuring to know that it was only a short 10-minute walk away. The hotel felt central and situated in an area of London that we truly love.
A Child-Friendly Paradise
The Hilton London Metropole is truly child-friendly, offering a range of activities that will keep little ones entertained. The kids loved the pizza-making class and their own special table filled with treats at breakfast. But their absolute favorite was the indoor pool. This hotel gem is a true treat, offering a space for kids to splash and play. The pool stayed open until 9:30 pm, allowing our children to enjoy a pre-bedtime swim, which was a perfect way to burn off energy and wind down before sleep.
A Family-Friendly Haven in the Heart of London
Overall, we had a fantastic stay at the Hilton London Metropole. It’s a perfect choice for families, especially with their spacious family rooms, which can accommodate up to five guests. We believe it offers excellent value for money, considering everything it has to offer. We would definitely return to this hotel for future trips to London.
