We love our city, but its concrete jungle can feel a little barren sometimes. That’s why we’re turning rooftops into vibrant gardens, breathing life back into the urban landscape!
A Greener City, One Rooftop at a Time
The rooftop is the heart of our building, a space we see as untapped potential. Instead of just holding air conditioning units and other mechanical equipment, imagine a flourishing food garden! This isn’t just about delicious produce, it’s about building a healthier, more sustainable city.
Think about it: rooftop gardens are good for the environment, educate our community, and boost urban quality of life by creating jobs and delivering the freshest food imaginable.
A City Feast, From Rooftop to Table
We’re not trying to replace rural farmers – we love and rely on them! We simply believe in growing food as close to where it’s enjoyed as possible.
Our rooftop garden is the lifeblood of our restaurant and bar. We harvest everything we grow, so chances are, if you visit, you’ll enjoy something straight from the roof, whether it’s a garnish for your drink or a delicious ingredient in your meal.
We partner with amazing local suppliers, but our dream is to transform more rooftops into urban oases so we can bring even more locally-grown goodness to our city.
Growing High Above the City’s Hustle and Bustle
You might think growing in the heart of London would be polluted, but we’re mindful of the environment! The harmful pollutants we need to watch out for are mainly from car engines. Luckily, these heavy metals are denser than air, meaning they don’t reach our rooftop height.
Our Tiny Rooftop Garden, Big on Flavor
Our garden is 1,400 square feet, but we currently grow on around 500 square feet. We use a special mix of mushroom compost, horse manure, and topsoil to nurture our plants. And to keep the soil rich, we even use worm castings from kitchen scraps!
A Symphony of Flavors on the Roof
We grow vegetables perfect for small spaces and produce big yields to keep our kitchen stocked. We love older varieties known for their delicious flavor and suitability for urban gardens.
Our rooftop garden is a year-round paradise! Salad leaves and herbs thrive all year long, while summer brings a burst of courgettes, beans, tomatoes, chilies, aubergines, and root vegetables. We’re always looking for new ways to grow, like adding dwarf trees, climbing fruit, pea shoots, and micro herbs.
Share the Growing Love: Get Involved!
We’re passionate about urban farming and want to share our knowledge with everyone. If you’d like to learn about organic rooftop gardening and get your hands dirty, come volunteer with Jack and Janelle on their weekly work days!
We also host monthly rooftop garden workshops covering topics like container gardening, herb planters, and successive cropping. It’s a great way to learn the art of urban growing and get inspired to start your own edible garden at home.
A City Built to Grow
We always think about safety and ensure our building can handle the weight of our garden. After all, it used to have two more floors!
Winter doesn’t stop us either! We have a greenhouse for year-round growing and plant hardy vegetables that can withstand the colder months.
While we’re not certified organic, we grow to organic standards and use no chemicals on our plants or soil. We rely on companion planting and good husbandry to keep pests and diseases away.
We envision a city filled with rooftop growing spaces connected to local pubs and restaurants. It’s a world where we can learn about, be inspired by, grow, and enjoy delicious, locally-grown fruits and vegetables, all while breathing new life into our concrete jungle.
