Imagine this: you’re on a whirlwind trip to London, needing a comfortable base with easy access to everything. Enter The Grosvenor London, a 4-star hotel in the heart of the city. My solo adventure landed me here, and let me tell you, it exceeded expectations!
Location, Location, Location: A Traveller’s Paradise
This hotel’s prime location is a huge plus. Situated right next to Victoria Station, it’s a haven for travellers seeking seamless connections. Whizzing off to Gatwick Airport on the Gatwick Express? No problem! Need to hop on the London Underground? Victoria, District and Circle lines are all readily available. And if you’re feeling energetic, several iconic London sights are within walking distance, including the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, just a 20-minute stroll away.
The Grosvenor sits amidst the vibrant energy of the city, a world away from quiet side streets. The hotel’s entrance, accessible directly from the station’s main concourse, is a lifesaver during London’s unpredictable weather. Just look for the entrance between the Accessorize and iSmash shops and you’re in! However, be aware that the entrance does lock later in the evening.
A Touch of Victorian Elegance: Stepping Back in Time
This hotel boasts a 19th-century building with breathtaking curb appeal. The grand entrance hall, complete with a majestic chandelier, will leave you speechless. The beauty continues throughout the building, with high ceilings, elegant pillars, intricate carvings, stained glass windows, and wide staircases. Think Instagram-worthy interiors galore!
A Comfortable Stay: My Single Room Review
My single room, located on a higher floor, offered a stunning view of the Victoria Bus Station. It might seem unconventional, but I found myself mesmerized by the constant activity below. The room itself was functional, with a desk, a wardrobe with a safe, a kettle and cups, and a comfortable Hypnos bed. I slept like a log!
While the bathroom fittings were slightly dated, everything was in perfect working order. My only complaint was the poor TV reception, which left me relying on my iPad for entertainment. However, the complimentary WiFi and two water bottles (still and sparkling) were a nice touch.
Afternoon Tea with a View: A Delightful Indulgence
Afternoon tea at the Grosvenor is a treat not to be missed. Nestled in the ground floor lounge, I was seated at a charming corner table with a window view, perfect for observing the room’s elegant ambience. With its high ceiling, pillars, and chandeliers, the lounge is a picture of Victorian elegance.
While the afternoon tea itself is on the more affordable side in London (under £30 without alcohol), the quality certainly doesn’t feel cheap. The scones and cakes are delightful, and while the tea comes in teabags instead of loose-leaf, it still tastes fantastic. My favourites were the pistachio meringue and the coronation chicken cone, but the savoury scone with tomato and horseradish chutney was a real standout.
The cherry jam served with the sweet scones was so delicious I ended up with black lips, teeth, and tongue! My advice: don’t try to eat everything! Get a doggy bag; I felt uncomfortably full for the rest of the day. Dinner? Not even a thought!
Exceptional Service: A Personal Touch
Every member of staff I encountered, from reception to restaurant staff, was incredibly friendly and helpful. I was particularly impressed by a receptionist who not only explained to an elderly couple how to reach the station’s passage but also picked up one of their suitcases and walked with them to show them the way. It’s these small gestures that make a big difference.
Overall, my stay at The Grosvenor London was truly fantastic. The hotel’s prime location, stunning Victorian architecture, comfortable rooms, and exceptional service created a memorable experience. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient base in the heart of London.
