A Touch of the French Riviera in London: Mimosa at The Langham

Mimosa, a Parisian-inspired eatery, has opened its doors at The Langham, one of London’s most celebrated hotels. This new restaurant fills the space once occupied by Roux at The Landau, which closed its doors after a decade due to the pandemic.

The Langham is ushering in a new culinary era with Mimosa, a vibrant addition that brings a taste of the French Riviera to the heart of London. The restaurant’s design, crafted by interior designer Dorothée Delaye, evokes the ambiance of a chic Mediterranean retreat. Warm terracotta hues and mahogany woodwork set the stage, while coral motifs, citrus-themed pink floral floor detailing, and blue ceramic wall lights transport guests to the French coast. A large fig tree stands proudly at the center, adding a touch of nature and grandeur. The warm lighting and flickering candles create a sun-dappled atmosphere in the evening, while the large arched windows bathe the space in natural light during the day.

Mimosa is a bustling hub of stylish diners, from couples enjoying an intimate meal to groups of friends and colleagues celebrating over Champagne in the semi-private alcove booths. The restaurant’s signature cocktail, a Mimosa made with Mercier Brut Champagne, fresh orange juice, and Cointreau, is the perfect way to start the evening. For those seeking alternative options, there’s a selection of other sunny cocktails and an extensive wine list featuring French varieties, including Provençal rosé that’s ideal for a summer’s day.

A Culinary Journey to the French Riviera

The culinary adventure at Mimosa begins with an intriguing amuse-bouche. A green cocoa butter shell, reminiscent of an olive or a sweet, hides an anchovy filling with a caramel-like texture. This unexpected flavor combination is both curious and delightful.

The menu features French-inspired fare, designed for sharing, and showcasing the talents of Chef Julien Tworek and his team. The appetizers we sampled included asparagus drizzled in creamy lemon Hollandaise sauce, fresh and vibrant tomato tartare with crispy bread, and a generous Niçoise salad. The main course featured octopus paired with spicy relish and a show-stopping roasted, corn-fed chicken. The chicken, sliced tableside, was infused with thyme and lemon, creating a symphony of flavors. The chicken is best enjoyed with a side of curly fries and grilled sweet gem lettuce, which resembles hispi cabbage.

Dessert is equally impressive, offering a touch of theatrical flair. The pineapple crème brûlée, called ‘l’ananas’ on the menu, is served inside a hollowed-out pineapple in a bowl of ice. The deconstructed tiramisu is assembled tableside, creating an interactive dining experience. The vibrant Riviera-inspired tableware, featuring fish motifs and yellow florals, adds to the holiday ambiance and provides the perfect backdrop for Instagram-worthy photos.

A Luxurious Escape

Mimosa lives up to its charming name. Located within The Langham, this restaurant offers a luxurious escape with high prices to match. While hotel restaurants often lack ambiance, Mimosa stands out with its lively atmosphere and a promise of a terrace this summer, completing the Mediterranean experience. With its delicious food, stylish setting, and vibrant energy, Mimosa is a worthy destination for a special occasion, bringing a taste of the French Riviera to the heart of London.
