London, a city known for its grandeur and price tags, might seem an unlikely place for a budget-friendly luxury experience. But, believe it or not, affordable luxury does exist within the city’s bustling heart.
A New Breed of Luxury
On a recent trip to London, I had the privilege of staying at the citizenM Tower of London, a four-star hotel situated right next to the iconic Tower of London. Unlike traditional luxury hotels that can feel ostentatious and overly formal, citizenM embraces a minimalist approach. They ditch unnecessary frills and instead focus on comfort, convenience, and a cool atmosphere. The result is a unique luxury experience aimed at creative travelers who appreciate style and comfort.
Prime Location, Breathtaking Views
London is a vast city, but its extensive Underground network makes navigating a breeze. The citizenM Tower of London is conveniently located above the Tower Hill tube station, allowing you to effortlessly explore the city’s major attractions. The Tower of London sits just across the street, and the iconic Tower Bridge is a mere 6-8 minute stroll away. But with the hotel’s Skybar offering spectacular views, you might find yourself reluctant to venture far.
Personalized Service Meets Laissez-Faire
As a traveler, I appreciate attentive service, but I also value personal space and independence. The citizenM strikes the perfect balance between personalized service and a relaxed, casual atmosphere. While friendly staff are always available, you can also opt for self-service check-in/check-out using dedicated kiosks. It’s the best of both worlds! The self-checkout process is incredibly efficient, taking a mere two seconds!
A Cool, Stylish Oasis for Work and Play
This hotel is ideal for business travelers and digital nomads seeking a stylish and comfortable space to work and relax. The hotel’s lobby areas have a cool and inviting vibe, reminiscent of a stylish living room. Cozy yet modern, comfortable yet sleek – it’s truly my kind of place.
The Skybar is another standout feature, offering cozy nooks perfect for reading or catching up on work. Massive bookshelves filled with quirky knick-knacks and comfortable seating create a welcoming atmosphere. The Skybar also hosts rotating photography exhibitions, showcasing local talent.
Quirky Touches and Vibrant Personality
The citizenM Tower of London embraces quirky details that inject personality into the luxury experience. From pens that beckon you to “steal them” to hilarious signs throughout the hotel, every corner brings a smile. These small touches elevate the stay, creating a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Compact Comfort and Modern Amenities
To achieve its affordable prices, the citizenM has made some strategic compromises. The rooms are compact, forgoing typical hotel amenities like free toiletries and plush towels. However, don’t let this deter you – the rooms are comfortable and equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay. Enjoy a giant bed, iPad-controlled blackout blinds, a large TV with free entertainment options, adjustable mood lighting, and temperature control.
While the rooms are smaller, they are efficiently designed, maximizing space. The only downside is that privacy can be limited in the bathroom, especially if you’re traveling with a companion.
Work, Relax, and Indulge
The citizenM Tower of London offers plenty of workspaces, including free iMacs on the ground floor, meeting spaces, and the aforementioned Skybar. For those seeking relaxation and refreshment, the hotel’s 24/7 canteen provides delicious food and drinks. Enjoy a complimentary hot drink and a generous breakfast buffet featuring all the components of a Full English Breakfast, as well as breads, cereals, yogurt, and charcuterie.
An Affordable Luxury Experience
The citizenM Tower of London is a fantastic option for travelers seeking affordable luxury in London. It offers a unique and stylish atmosphere, quirky details, and exceptional value. If you’re looking for spacious rooms and lavish amenities, this might not be the ideal choice. However, if you appreciate comfort, convenience, cool vibes, and breathtaking views, then this hotel is a must-consider. With rooms starting at only 125 pounds per night, it’s a real bargain by London standards.
