Forget the stuffy, overpriced hotels – London has a hidden gem that offers style and comfort without breaking the bank. On my latest trip, I stayed at the citizenM Tower of London, a four-star hotel with a modern twist.
The citizenM chain is all about simplicity – no unnecessary frills, just comfortable rooms, convenient amenities, and a cool vibe. This isn’t your typical luxurious hotel, but it is perfect for creative travelers who crave a unique experience.
Location, Location, Location
London is a sprawling city, but the citizenM’s prime location makes exploring a breeze. Right next to the Tower of London and a short walk from Tower Bridge, you’ll find yourself within easy reach of some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
Bonus: The hotel is directly above the Tower Hill tube station, making it a breeze to access the city’s extensive underground network.
And speaking of views… the Skybar offers panoramic vistas of London that are simply breathtaking. I’d challenge you to find a better view in the city.
Personalized Service with a Chill Vibe
I’m a big fan of personalized service, but I also appreciate a laid-back atmosphere. The citizenM strikes the perfect balance. Friendly staff are always available, but there’s also the option for self-service check-in and check-out, letting you bypass any human interaction if you prefer.
Speaking of efficiency, the self-checkout literally takes two seconds! I was truly impressed.
A Work-Friendly Oasis
If you’re a digital nomad or a business traveler, the citizenM is a dream come true. The hotel offers numerous spaces to work in peace, with sleek, stylish decor that feels like a cool, modern living room.
The Skybar is another great spot to work or relax, with comfy seating, massive bookshelves, and even a photography exhibition featuring street art. It’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of London.
Quirky Touches and Comfort
What really impressed me about the citizenM was its unique personality. From pens begging to be stolen to hilarious signs scattered throughout the hotel, there are plenty of quirky touches that add a touch of fun to the luxurious experience.
Don’t expect over-the-top amenities like fancy toiletries or swan towels. The citizenM focuses on comfort and functionality.
The rooms are compact, but they are well-designed and surprisingly comfortable, with features like a giant bed, iPad-controlled blackout blinds, a big TV with free shows, and adjustable mood lighting.
Yes, the rooms are small, but they are surprisingly comfortable. The only downside is that if you’re traveling with a companion, there’s not much privacy when using the bathroom.
Work, Eat, and Relax
The citizenM is packed with spaces for work, socializing, and relaxation. There are iMacs on the lower floor for guest use, meeting rooms for collaborating, and of course, the Skybar for soaking up the views and unwinding after a long day.
And don’t forget the 24/7 canteen that serves delicious food and drinks, including a fantastic breakfast buffet. Whether you’re craving a hearty full English breakfast or just a light bite, you’ll find something to satisfy your hunger.
Affordable Luxury with a Twist
The citizenM Tower of London is a hotel that offers luxury on a budget. It’s perfect for travelers who appreciate style, comfort, and a touch of quirk. If you’re looking for a traditional luxury experience with over-the-top amenities, this might not be the right fit.
But if you’re looking for a comfortable stay with a cool vibe and stunning views, then the citizenM is an absolute must.
With rooms starting at £125 per night, it’s a steal by London standards.
