My recent stay at The Beaumont Hotel in London was truly exceptional, a luxurious experience from the moment I stepped through the doors. Tucked away in the basement, the Beaumont Spa is a true oasis of tranquility. The spa’s white marble Art Deco design transports you to another world, a world away from the bustling city streets of Mayfair. This haven of relaxation offers a comprehensive range of treatments, including massages, facials, and hammams, as well as manicures, pedicures, hairdressing, and grooming services. The spa also boasts a fully equipped gym, a sauna, a steam room, and a refreshing cold plunge pool and ice machine.
A Room Fit for a King: Room 412
My room, number 412 on the fourth floor, provided stunning views of Brown Hart Gardens and the London skyline. While the weather wasn’t ideal during my visit, the room’s spacious balcony with floor-to-ceiling doors was a welcome feature. The large entrance area featured fitted wardrobes, beautifully appointed with deluxe wooden hangers, an umbrella, a safe, and shoe care accessories.
A Luxurious Retreat: Bedroom Amenities
Stepping into the main bedroom, I was greeted by a vast bed adorned with plush linens featuring the hotel’s “B” monogram. The bedside tables were thoughtfully stocked with a traditional alarm clock, a modern phone, a reading book, paper and pen, an accessories tray, and a delightful touch – a set of playing cards, traditional games, and a generous-sized bar of both milk and dark chocolate. A large writing desk crafted from gleaming polished wood, a comfortable chair, two occasional armchairs, and a small coffee table laden with fresh fruit, handcrafted chocolates, and mineral water completed the picture.
A Symphony of Style and Comfort
Throughout the hotel, meticulous attention to detail was evident. From the polished dark and lacquered woods to the gleaming glass and chrome, the sparkling marble and tiled walls and floors in the spa and bathrooms, cleanliness was paramount. The hotel had a calming and relaxing ambience, reminiscent of an Agatha Christie novel. Despite the proximity to the Gardens, the bedroom was remarkably quiet, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The staff, always courteous and attentive, went above and beyond to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience.
A Bathroom Fit for a Star
The bathroom was a masterpiece of design, adorned with gleaming white fittings and mirrored and chrome accents, echoing the vintage Art Deco aesthetic. A full-sized bath and a spacious walk-in shower with an overhead rain shower head, all set against a backdrop of gleaming marble, added a touch of luxury. The large marble vanity unit was equipped with an array of bathroom accessories, and an abundance of fluffy white towels were on hand.
Sustainable Luxury: Bespoke Toiletries
The bathroom was stocked with bespoke toiletries from D.R. Harris & Co., a renowned purveyor of gentlemen’s grooming products from St. James’s London. The selection included a shampoo and body wash bar, body lotion, conditioner, hand soap, and bath salts. While I initially missed the presence of shower gel, I discovered a card explaining the sustainability aspects of the hotel’s choice of bars. After trying them, I was impressed by their quality and longevity compared to liquid versions.
A Culinary Journey: Breakfast at the Colony Grill
Breakfast, served in the Colony Grill, the hotel’s main restaurant, was a delectable affair. The extensive menu offered a wide range of options, from viennoiserie pastries and cold breakfast items to pancakes, French toast, duck egg hashes, and a variety of hot breakfast choices, including a vegan English breakfast. Each dish was expertly prepared and served with impeccable attentiveness, transforming breakfast into another delightful Beaumont experience.
A Night Out at Gatsby’s Lounge
After a long day of exploring the city, I sought a relaxing evening at Gatsby’s Lounge bar, a charming space serving both snacks and drinks. The service was exceptional, and I enjoyed a glass of champagne followed by a cocktail before dinner. While the main bar, Le Magritte Bar, was bustling and unfortunately fully booked, I found Gatsby’s Lounge to be a welcome alternative.
A Culinary Masterpiece: Dinner at the Colony Grill Room
Dinner at the Colony Grill Room was a culinary highlight. The menu offered a diverse selection of dishes, including a dedicated vegetarian menu, all served with impeccable attentiveness and a warm, friendly atmosphere. The Colony Grill Bespoke Sundae was a delightful dessert, allowing guests to customize their sundae with various ice cream flavors, toppings, and sauces.
A Legacy of Luxury: The Beaumont’s History
The Beaumont Hotel’s claim to embody the spirit of grand hotels from the 1920s is undeniable. What started as a four-storey car park with a petrol station has evolved into a luxurious haven, a testament to the enduring power of style and elegance. Over its 100-year history, the building has also served as offices and an Avis rent-a-car location, undergoing several transformations to become the architectural masterpiece it is today.
A World of Tranquility: The Beaumont Spa Revisited
The Beaumont Spa is a true sanctuary of relaxation, a world apart from the hustle and bustle of Mayfair. The tranquil white marble Art Deco setting offers a wide range of treatments, including massages, facials, and hammams, as well as manicures, pedicures, hairdressing, and grooming services. The Spa Hammam features a sauna, a steam room, a cold plunge pool, and an ice bowl, while a separate, 24-hour gym provides ample opportunities for fitness enthusiasts.
