Ready to explore some unique shops? Join me on a journey through Fitzrovia, a vibrant London neighborhood brimming with independent stores and hidden gems. Our guide is the fabulous Rowena Howie, owner of the vintage clothing store, Revival Retro. Let’s delve into her favorite haunts, uncovering hidden treasures and local delights along the way!
A Shopping Spree with a Vintage Vibe
Our adventure begins on Store Street, where we’re greeted by the intoxicating aroma of freshly cut flowers at Orchidya, a florist overflowing with floral delights. This is a perfect stop for a quick bouquet or a stunning orchid for your home.
Just next door, Footes Music beckons with its impressive selection of drums, percussion, and string instruments. This is a musician’s haven, run by passionate musicians for fellow music lovers.
A caffeine fix is a must, and Store Street Espresso fits the bill perfectly. This bustling café serves up Rowena’s favorite brew, making it a regular stop in her daily routine.
From Architecture to Vintage Glamour
Our journey continues towards Windmill Street, where we pass The Building Centre, an architectural hub showcasing innovative design trends.
But our real destination is Revival Retro, Rowena’s very own store. This is where I found inspiration for my Goodwood Revival outfit, and where you’ll find a treasure trove of vintage-inspired clothing and reproduction pieces.
Leather, Denim, and Artistic Delights
Just around the corner on Whitfield Street lies Lewis Leathers, a haven for biker jacket enthusiasts. The scent of leather greets you at the door, a testament to the classic biker jackets that fill this shop.
Back on Windmill Street, we stumble upon Curwen Gallery, a hub for art lovers. Here, you can explore the latest exhibitions and immerse yourself in the artistic energy.
Next door is Rivet and Hide, a specialist menswear store that showcases rare denim. Their raw selvedge cuts in classic retro styles are built to last, and they look undeniably good.
A Culinary Journey and Button-tiful Discoveries
The Charlotte Street Hotel, part of the renowned Firmdale Hotel group, is a perfect spot for cocktails at Oscar’s bar.
For sushi and Japanese cuisine, Roka is a popular choice, while Rowena prefers the charming Lantana Cafe for brunch.
Our exploration takes us to Cleveland Street, where we discover the tiny gem of a shop, Taylors Buttons. This store is crammed with every imaginable button, from traditional to designer. This is where you can find exquisite hand-covered fabric buttons, perfect for everything from wedding dresses to upholstery.
Capture the Moment with Second-hand Charm
Finally, we arrive at Aperture Photographic on Rathbone Place, a shop specializing in second-hand camera equipment. This is a treasure trove for photographers seeking vintage cameras and lenses.
