Oh, Heathrow Airport! The name alone conjures images of bustling crowds and endless queues, sending shivers down the spines of even the most seasoned travelers.
You might be surprised to hear, but I recently had a surprisingly pleasant experience at
Heathrow Airport
. Yes, I know, it’s a behemoth of a place, and I’ve always viewed it with a touch of dread, but I can confidently say that it’s not as daunting as it seems. In fact, it’s quite manageable, especially if you approach it with a bit of planning.
A Short and Easy Flight, Followed by a Breeze Through Heathrow
I embarked on my journey from Newcastle to Heathrow with British Airways. The flight was a short and sweet affair, lasting a mere 45 minutes, which flew by in a flash. Landing at
Terminal 5
was a smooth experience, and after a brief delay navigating the usual post-flight chaos of buses and luggage carousels, I was reunited with my suitcase. From there, it was a quick and easy hop over to my hotel using the free
London Underground
.
A Convenient Stay at the Premier Inn, Terminal 4
The Premier Inn is conveniently located next to
Terminal 4
, though I must admit,
Terminal 5
, where I arrived, was quite a trek away. However, Heathrow has a fantastic network of transportation options, connecting you to all the terminals without a hitch. I opted for the Heathrow Connect train service, a user-friendly and, most importantly, free service.
The airport is brimming with friendly staff, ready to help you navigate your way around, be it at the airport or the train stations. For those preferring a bus ride, the Heathrow Express bus service also stops right outside the hotel, making it a breeze to hop between terminals.
A Room with a View, and More
Upon entering my standard double room, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was surprisingly spacious and comfortable. A cozy seating area by the window offered stunning views of Canary Wharf and
London
, which transformed into a twinkling spectacle after dark. It was a joy to spend my evenings here, watching planes gracefully glide towards the airport. The sofa, large enough to double as a single bed, gave me ample space to spread out and relax, making the room feel even more inviting. The complimentary coffee, tea, and water were an added bonus, ensuring a refreshing stay.
A Night of Sound Sleep, and a Luxurious Bathroom
The bed, a king-size haven of comfort, promised a restful night’s sleep. I confess, I was initially apprehensive about the noise from the airport, but the soundproofed windows effectively blocked any distractions.
To compensate for the lack of an open window, the room had quiet air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable temperature throughout my stay. The extensive light switches next to the bed offered a surprising amount of control over the room’s lighting, allowing me to set the perfect mood.
The bathroom was another highlight, with its generous size and a combination of a bathtub and a rain shower. It felt modern and fresh, with a sleek design that exuded a touch of luxury. The Bayliss & Harding bath wash, with its delightful aroma, was a delightful surprise, transforming my bath into a truly indulgent experience.
Rain showers are a personal favorite, adding a touch of elegance to any hotel stay. The Premier Inn did not disappoint, making my mornings feel a little more special. There’s something about a refreshing rainfall shower that instantly elevates the start of your day.
A Tasty Dinner and Breakfast to Remember
I had opted for a package that included breakfast and dinner at the Thyme restaurant. It turned out to be a fantastic choice, especially considering the convenience of having meals on-site, eliminating the need to venture out into
London
.
The dinner menu offered a fantastic array of options, with an impressive selection of delicious vegan dishes. I enjoyed a two-course meal, starting with a flavorful bruschetta, followed by a spicy noodle dish that tantalized my taste buds. The food was so good, I couldn’t resist finishing off my photographer’s dinner too!
The hotel also had a cozy bar area and a Costa Coffee shop, both offering great seating areas where you could observe the planes taking off and landing. While waiting for my room to be ready, I enjoyed a relaxing time here, watching the constant air traffic.
Breakfast was a bountiful buffet affair, featuring a wide variety of pastries, cooked dishes, and fresh fruit options. The spread was satisfying and set me up perfectly for my upcoming long flight. The only drawback was the coffee machine running out of milk. However, the extensive herbal tea selection more than made up for it.
A Highly Recommended Stay
Overall, my stay at the Premier Inn at
Heathrow Airport
was a delightful experience. It was a small, budget-friendly slice of luxury, offering a comfortable and convenient haven for travelers like myself. Its proximity to
Terminal 4
and easy access to other terminals make it a perfect choice for breaking up your journey.
If you’re looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay during your travels through
London
Heathrow, I wholeheartedly recommend the Premier Inn. You might just be surprised by how enjoyable your stay can be.
