London’s Summer Charm: A Family Getaway at the Hilton London Metropole

London in the early summer is a sight to behold, with pleasant days and stunning skies. It’s the perfect time to explore the city before the summer crowds descend. When the sun shines brightly and the temperature rises, London feels like a vibrant, bustling city brimming with possibilities. We recently enjoyed a wonderful family stay at the Hilton London Metropole, where all these elements combined for a perfect weekend in the capital.

A Central Location with Vibrant Surroundings

The Hilton London Metropole is nestled on the bustling Edgware Road, bordering Paddington. This area holds a special place in my heart – it’s a colorful and vibrant hub with a plethora of restaurants within easy reach.

Spacious and Family-Friendly Accommodations

The hotel itself is massive, boasting over a thousand bedrooms spread across different wings, a variety of restaurants, shops, and leisure facilities. It truly is a world within itself, offering plenty to keep everyone entertained, especially when traveling with kids.

We were lucky enough to stay in one of the hotel’s family rooms, a spacious haven designed for families of five. The room featured a main bedroom with two queen-sized beds, a sofa that transformed into another bed, and a desk at the end. The room was generously sized and offered exceptional value for families visiting London.

The bathroom was a decent size, equipped with lovely toiletries – though I’d love to see Hilton switch to non-disposable toiletries, a change that would be much appreciated by eco-conscious travelers.

A Delicious Start to Each Day

Each morning, we indulged in the hotel’s main restaurant, a feast for the senses with its extensive buffet selection. We were delighted to find vegetarian sausages, a variety of hot dishes including pancakes and an egg station, and mouthwatering pastries. The children were particularly fond of the kids’ corner with its warm chocolates and doughnuts. While I was a little disappointed about the lack of fresh fruit juices, the abundance of fruit and unique dishes more than made up for it. We left breakfast feeling thoroughly satisfied!

An Evening of Italian Delights

One evening, we enjoyed dinner at the hotel’s Fiamma restaurant, a haven for Italian cuisine lovers. The highlight of the meal was the pizza-making session for the kids, led by the skilled chef, which proved to be a huge hit. The hotel boasts its own pizza oven, where they bake their sourdough pizzas to perfection. I loved seeing the kids create their own culinary masterpieces.

For our dinner, I savored a delicious rigatoni with onions, asparagus, and blue cheese, while Mr. G indulged in a grilled sea bass with chili, coriander, and clam risotto, a dish he found incredibly delicious.

Conveniently Located with Easy Access to the City’s Charms

We found the Hilton London Metropole’s location to be incredibly convenient. While we didn’t venture out to Oxford Street during this trip, it was comforting to know that it was just a ten-minute walk away. The hotel feels central and situated in a part of London we adore.

Parking at the hotel is quite expensive, so it’s best to try your luck nearby – which can also be quite pricey. We managed to find some on-street parking that stopped charging at 6:30 pm on Fridays, but most of it continued until 6:30 pm on Saturdays. If you’re driving, it’s worth factoring the cost of parking into your stay.

A True Family Oasis

The Hilton London Metropole is truly child-friendly, and our kids had an absolute blast, from the pizza-making class to their own dedicated table of treats at breakfast. But their absolute favorite was the indoor pool, a rare treat in a London hotel. The pool was open until 9:30 pm, allowing the kids to enjoy a pre-bedtime swim, a perfect way to expend excess energy and unwind before bedtime.

A Memorable Family Stay

Overall, we had an unforgettable stay at the Hilton London Metropole. It’s an excellent choice for families, especially with its family rooms that can accommodate five. The hotel offers excellent value for everything it provides.

We would certainly consider returning to the Hilton London Metropole for our next trip to London.
