It’s like stepping into a history book! There are so many incredible and famous exhibits in the Flight Gallery that you could spend hours exploring them all. Here are just a few highlights to whet your appetite:

Spitfires and Hurricanes: The gallery houses a Spitfire and a Hurricane, two iconic aircraft that played a vital role in the Battle of Britain during World War II. The Hurricane on display actually fought over Dunkirk. It’s an early model, and its wings are covered with fabric, a nod to the early days of aviation, when planes were built from wood, fabric, and wire.

Stuka: The Stuka, the main adversary of the Spitfire and Hurricane during the war, is also on display. This highly advanced aircraft spurred significant improvements in British aircraft design.

It’s like a giant puzzle! You can’t miss the enormous cutout section of a Boeing 747 at the end of the gallery. It’s so large that it might look like the open jaws of a giant whale at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you’ll see that it’s a cross-section of the aircraft.
- The Jumbo Jet: This section of the 747, affectionately known as the jumbo jet, comes from a plane built in 1974. Since then, many advancements have been made in aircraft design, and while the 747 was once the largest passenger plane, it has been surpassed by the Airbus.
Back to the beginning! As you enter the Flight Gallery, one of the first things you’ll see is a replica of the Montgolfier brothers’ first public hot air balloon demonstration in 1783.
