Wild Food Café: A Vegan Paradise in Covent Garden

It’s always exciting to discover a new vegan eatery, especially one that promises a truly unique dining experience. That’s why I was thrilled when Wild Food Café invited me and a friend to review their restaurant. Nestled in a quirky corner of Covent Garden, the café boasts a vibrant blue exterior staircase, leading to a charming space filled with fairy lights and cozy wooden furniture. An open kitchen at the back provides a glimpse into the freshness of their ingredients, instantly piquing your curiosity.

A Menu That Delights the Senses

Upon being seated, we were presented with a menu brimming with tantalizing options. It quickly became apparent that every single dish on offer was vegan, gluten-free, wheat-free and refined sugar-free. This was a true haven for health-conscious diners like myself. My eyes were drawn to the olive, shiitake and quinoa burger (£13.20), promising a delicious alternative to the classic burger and fries. It was a clear indication that this was a place where good food and good health were intertwined.

Exceptional Service and Refreshing Beverages

The staff at Wild Food Café radiated an infectious warmth and friendliness, instantly making us feel at ease. The drinks menu boasted a diverse selection, from organic wines and gluten-free beers to smoothies, juices, organic coffees and teas. There was even a kombuca option (£3.70) – a probiotic fermented drink known for its gut-friendly benefits. Despite never having tried kombuca before, I was intrigued and decided to give it a go.

A Kombuca Revelation

The kombuca pleasantly surprised me with its lightly fragrant, sweet taste. It reminded me of a refreshing blend of lemonade and soda water, with a subtle zesty ginger kick. This was a perfect, healthy start to our meal.

Flavors That Delight the Palate

To start, we opted for the hummus and raw crackers (£6.50), a combination that promised to be both tasty and wholesome. The hummus, made from sprouted chickpeas, was a revelation, offering a creamy and fresh flavor that I hadn’t experienced before. The raw crackers, crafted from sunflower seeds and shallots, were delightfully warm and perfectly complemented the hummus. As a self-proclaimed hummus addict, this was a truly satisfying choice.

A Unique and Flavorful Curry Experience

For our main course, I decided to try the ‘Karma Kameleon Curry’ (£15.50). It was a beautiful presentation of vegetables, purple quinoa, wild rice, and red cabbage slaw. While the appearance was unexpected, I was excited to sample this genuinely healthy curry. The quinoa and wild rice were both spicy and delicious, infused with natural curry spices that truly awakened my taste buds. The marinated vegetables, a mix of peppers, green beans, and squash, offered a mild korma coconut flavor that blended seamlessly. Though not a large portion, this flavorful curry was surprisingly satisfying, and perhaps a testament to its high-quality ingredients.

A Sweet Ending to a Delicious Meal

Dessert at Wild Food Café was a revelation. The menu was a delightful array of cakes and desserts, and I was in a dilemma about which to choose. Our waiter suggested the ‘Young Coconut Banoffee Pie’ (£5.50), and I happily agreed. The beautifully presented slice of cake melted in my mouth, leaving a lingering coconut flavor that evoked summery memories. Hidden beneath the creamy texture were hints of caramel and soft banana, creating a truly harmonious blend of flavors. It was the perfect end to a fantastic meal.
