Welcome to Booking.com, your trusted source for finding the perfect accommodation! We’re passionate about providing transparent and helpful reviews, empowering you to make informed travel decisions. Let’s delve into how we manage and display reviews, ensuring a fair and reliable experience for everyone.
How We Calculate Review Scores
Each accommodation receives a review score ranging from 1 to 10, reflecting the overall guest experience. To determine the score, we sum up all the individual review scores and divide by the total number of reviews. We’re currently experimenting with a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). This system prioritizes recent reviews to provide a more up-to-date representation of the accommodation’s performance.
Additionally, guests can submit subscores for specific areas like location, cleanliness, and staff. These subscores are independent of the overall score, giving you valuable insights into the various aspects of the accommodation.
Reviewing & Editing
You can leave a review for any accommodation you booked through our platform, even if you didn’t actually stay there. If you need to edit a previously submitted review, please reach out to our Customer Service team.
Fighting Fake Reviews
We’re dedicated to ensuring the authenticity of reviews. We have a team of specialists, alongside automated systems, working tirelessly to detect and remove fake reviews. We take serious action against those who attempt to manipulate the system. If you spot any suspicious activity, feel free to report it to our Customer Service team.
Review Guidelines: Maintaining a High Standard
To guarantee a trustworthy and family-friendly environment, we enforce strict review guidelines. We won’t publish reviews that include:
- Impersonation (pretending to be someone else)
- Violations of our review guidelines
Reviews should be submitted within three months of checkout, and we might stop displaying reviews after 36 months or if there’s a change in ownership.
Transparency and User Control
Accommodation providers are welcome to reply to reviews. When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones appear at the top. You can also sort and filter reviews by time of year, review score, or language.
We occasionally incorporate external review scores from other well-known travel websites, always making this clear.
Keeping it Relevant and Respectful
Our review guidelines aim to maintain relevant and family-friendly content while allowing for strong opinions.
- Contributions must be travel-related and provide helpful information for other travelers.
- Refrain from including personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary.
- Avoid using profanity or discriminatory language.
- Ensure all content is genuine and unique to the guest.
- Respect the privacy of others by avoiding personal details.
